Discover the Heart of the Biedouw Valley.
Our Story. Our Valley.
Tucked away in the heart of the Cederberg, Biedouw Valley Wegbreek is more than just a campsite — it’s a retreat into simplicity, peace, and nature at its most breathtaking. Just beyond the Pakhuis Pass near Clanwilliam, the valley opens up like a secret waiting to be discovered, framed by dramatic mountains and painted with wildflowers after the first rains.
The Biedouw Valley itself carries centuries of stories. Named after the hardy “bie” plant (Euphorbia mauritanica) once used by the Khoekhoen people, the landscape is steeped in cultural history. The region is home to ancient San rock art, with paintings that whisper the lives and traditions of those who walked here long before us. Nearby Clanwilliam — one of South Africa’s oldest towns — adds another layer of history, with landmarks like the 1834 church and C. Louis Leipoldt’s thatched dwelling.
Biedouw Valley Wegbreek was created with this heritage and setting in mind — a place where visitors can disconnect from the rush of daily life and reconnect with nature. Nestled along the Biedouw River, our campsite offers 15 spacious sites, each designed for up to six campers. With communal ablution blocks, a shared kitchen, and the option of simple power connections, we’ve kept things flexible, uncomplicated, and true to the valley’s spirit.
Here, days stretch wide with possibilities: hiking along trails that reveal waterfalls, potholes, and rock formations; plunging into cool rock pools; stargazing under unpolluted skies; or simply sitting back with a book while birdsong fills the air. And when late winter gives way to spring, the valley transforms into one of the world’s most extraordinary natural wonders — an endless carpet of colour as the wildflowers bloom.
Whether you’re here to explore, to rest, or to soak in the beauty of flower season, Biedouw Valley Wegbreek offers the kind of back-to-nature experience that stays with you long after you’ve left.
